¿Is there a minimum age for surgery?
The final stages of growth of the face structures occurs between 14 and 17, in that sense the vast majority prefer to take the 17 age limit. Obviously as long as the examination during the consultation set your fitness and laboratory results as normal.
¿When is it worth to get nose job?
The nose gives character and beauty to the face, occupies a central place in the triangle shaped with the eyes and is an inescapable gaze of others. But do not forget that its main function is in connection with the air flow conduct in both directions, its heating and humidification. So while the nose surgery conquer esthetic standards of beauty, can also achieve an improvement in his function. Given this mix of considerations, is heavily recommended to have a nose surgery in the following cases:
¿What is an unaesthetic nose?
Any nose that has some unaesthetic features that does not form the beautiful patterns according to the relationships that should be kept in harmony with your own face.
¿What is a rhinoplasty?
The nose surgery (rhinoplasty) is for me the procedure where plastic surgery and architecture look alike. With the head in the supine position imagine the nose like an airplane hangar with two large portals (the nostrils) covered by a rounded roof all made of skin. The cartilage and bone replacing inside the beams and pillars, in this example. In other words the external appearance of your nose is given by structures made of cartilage and bone in which the form, layout and size is remodeled through rhinoplasty.
¿What type of anesthesia is used in a Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia and sedation, however general anesthesia allows a better control of respiratory function, blood pressure and absolutely eliminates pain.
¿How long does a Rhinoplasty take?
The average is between two to three hours. These times depend mainly on the amount of changes that need to be made and the surgical technique selected to carry them out. Here, as in any other plastic surgery, faster does not mean better. The thoroughness and perfectionism are the foundation of success and satisfaction.
¿Does it hurt a lot?
No. The vast majority of my patients report no pain or some minor pain. More commonly they complain of discomfort throat intubation. Anyway, if a pain of any intensity should arise, the latest generation of drugs that are placed under the tongue are as fast and as powerful as an injection into the vein.
¿How many days do I have to stay home?
Depends on the quality of your evolution, the period of rest at home is on average 5-7 days. However from the third day you will perform daily activities that do not require physical exertion.
¿Will I have to stay in bed all the time?
No. You can relax in an armchair, sofa and so on. In any case you should avoid completely horizontal position, lifting your head and back at least thirty degrees with pillows. This will decrease the accumulation of inflammatory fluids and pose a more favorable outcome.
¿When can I travel?
Depending on your progress the journey can be made to the sixth or seventh day.
¿When can I start exercising again?
The sports can be resumed from a period as early as 10 days if the changes your nose need are scarce (i.e. minor modifications to the tip, the width of the nostrils, or the removal of a small dorsal hump). In cases involving the remodeling of bone (osteotomy) this period is extended to 6 or 8 weeks. The first week of the return should be performed in a stepwise and progressive.
¿Am I going to swell and have a lot of bruises?
No. Keep in mind that each surgeon talks based on their own experience. The standard in my patients is that although inflammation is inevitable, this is mild or moderate especially if the bone is not remodeled. In cases where you need to change the bone the trauma is obviously greater, however I use a technique where the breaking of the bone is controlled with little bruising and null or minimal pain.
¿Do I have to use a nasal packing which forces me to breathe through my mouth?
The nose plugs have a clear function in your favor. Basically act as a finger that controls subsequent bleeding, stabilizes worked segments and prevents inflamed mucosa too. The good news is that there is now a model of tamponed that have a central conduct through which you can breathe keeping your mouth shut.
¿How many days will I have to use a nasal packing?
Often the next day after the surgery, in some cases it is left up to the third day before removal.
¿Does the nasal packing removal hurt?
Most of the time it does not hurt, especially if the removal is made the next day.
¿Is there always a plaster over the nose and why?
Currently there are other lighter and skin color materials. Plaster is used only when the case involves bone remodeling located in the area where the lenses are normally supported by the nose, through controlled fracture made with the appropriate instruments. In other words act as a splint to maintain the new position of the bone fixed segments.
¿How many days will the plaster be on my nose?
From a week to ten days.
¿What is the role of micro pore tape and plaster on the nose?
Micro porous skin color paper have the function to avoid the intense inflammation tissue and help maintain the new position of the tip structures. Plaster (or other plastic material) is mantling only if your nose looks wide in a bone structure level.
¿How many days I have to wear the skin color micro pore tape over my nose?
Every 7 days is exchanged with a new one for 3 to 4 weeks.
¿Is the nose always operated in the same way?
No. There are many techniques to modify every aspect of the nose, and also more than one way to address it. The approach refers to the cuts (or cuts) to get to the cartilage and bone in order to reform them.
¿Where I will the scars be located?
All small scars remain out of sight when closed or endonasal approach is made, since the incisions are made inside the nose. It's a great technique when the nose does not need very radical maneuvers. The open method is increasing worldwide, this method involves small incisions hidden inside (as endonasal) that bind to the level of the columella (the column of skin between the nostrils). This technique widely exposes all structures of the nose, allowing a higher level of redesign.
¿Am I going to notice scars with the open technique?
I can say categorically no. Although with the open technique the columella is opened (this is the column of skin located between the two nasal holes) we are talking about a very small scar (5 to 6 mm long), located on a site that is not visually exposed when we talked with others, and that is made almost imperceptible very early (usually within 10 days). Starting from the premise that this is an almost invisible scar, should emphasize the gains that the open technique allows to make major changes.
¿Can a loud sneeze in the early days damage my surgery?
No, although you sneeze like a hurricane is almost impossible to destroy the changes. Surgery reshapes cartilage, and in some cases the bone is immobilized and the pieces are position together through internal threads also used in the surface of the mucosa and/ or skin. . Additionally, the overlying skin covering this changes sticks all of them together as they heal.
I want my nose to look natural and match my face. How can I be sure that this would be achieved?
There are technically and scientifically well-established criteria, which establish what are the characteristics that make a beautiful nose, how to address the structures responsible for its beauty, its dimensions and its ideal angles. The relations and proportions must keep the nose relate to the face in general, and the aspect ratio to each of the surrounding structures in particular.
¿Can the nose surgery provoke breathing difficulties later on?
Quite the contrary. One of the indications for having this surgery is to correct problems such as chronic obstruction of non-allergic origin.
